GeorgiaBEST@School

GeorgiaBEST@School is designed for Pre-K through Post-Secondary teachers to facilitate discussion in their classrooms. Goal: at the earliest age – exposure to concepts; for all students – introduce components, model, teach, reinforce, acknowledge, and reward appropriate behavior and skills in order to prepare students for the workplace, for higher education, and for life.

Teachers can register for the GeorgiaBEST@School program. Once registered, they can log in to access the teacher’s manuals, lesson plans, activities, ethical choice scenarios, and additional resources for parents. Teachers can also this link to complete the Frequency Observation Tool for each student, indicate whether or not the student has met the requirements for a certificate of participation, and print the GeorgiaBEST@School certificate.

Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) Work Based Learning (WBL), Youth Apprenticeship Program (YAP), and student intern teachers/coordinators may also use this link to enter the ratings from the employer-completed WBL/YAP Frequency Observation Tool (student employee must have been observed by a supervisor for a period of at least 90 days), indicate whether or not the student employee has met the requirements for a GeorgiaBEST@Work certificate, and print the certificate signed by the Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner, Mark Butler. WBL/YAP students or student interns have an opportunity to earn both a GeorgiaBEST@School certificate of participation AND a GeorgiaBEST@Work certificate if they meet the requirements for both.

GeorgiaBEST@Work

GeorgiaBEST@Work is designed for Georgia employers to use with their existing workforce. It may also be used by non-profit organizations, government agencies, and any other entity who employs individuals in either a paid or non-paid capacity. Goal: to assist employers with their need to train both new employees and incumbent workers.

HR managers, trainers, or designated facilitators can register for the GeorgiaBEST@Work program. Once registered, they can log in to access the facilitator’s guide, lesson plans, activities, and ethical choice scenarios. Supervisors or trainers can also use this link to complete the Frequency Observation Tool for each employee that has been observed by a supervisor for a period of at least 90 days, indicate whether or not the employee has met the requirements for a GeorgiaBEST@Work certificate, and print the certificate signed by the Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner, Mark Butler.

A Train-the-Trainer Toolkit (adapted from ASTD’s Ultimate Train the Trainer: A Complete Guide to Training Success workbook, written and copyrighted by Elaine Biech and the American Society for Training & Development, and published by ASTD) is available for those facilitators who may lack experience or confidence with conducting training sessions. It includes a Trainer’s Guide, PowerPoint slides, handouts, and additional resources.

GeorgiaBEST at Home Image

GeorgiaBEST@Home

GeorgiaBEST@Home is designed for individuals, parents, mentors, after-school programs, faith-based organization, civic groups, etc. Goal: exposure to concepts; develop an understanding of employer expectations; work to improve skills and competencies.

Training can be self-directed or led by a facilitator. Individual participants and group facilitators can register for the GeorgiaBEST@Home program. Once registered, they can log in to access the facilitator’s guide, lesson plans, activities, and ethical choice scenarios. While there is no certificate for GeorgiaBEST@Home, participants will have access to valuable information that can help them not only get a job, but keep a job.

Facilitators who plan to lead training through after-school programs, faith-based organizations, civic groups, etc. will also have access to a Train-the-Trainer Toolkit (adapted from ASTD’s Ultimate Train the Trainer: A Complete Guide to Training Success workbook, written and copyrighted by Elaine Biech and the American Society for Training & Development, and published by ASTD). The toolkit may be helpful for those facilitators who lack experience or confidence with conducting training sessions. It includes a Trainer’s Guide, PowerPoint slides, handouts, and additional resources.
